Beautiful photograph of the New York first baseman Hal Chase as distributed on December 16, 1909 by the Sporting News as
part of an issue that featured 100 different supplements distributed
between 1909 and 1913. This offering has been well-preserved and is now
protected in a PSA slab. Despite exhibiting
age-related wear - note the crease near the top left and bottom left corners - this offering has tremendous eye appeal.
The details on this photo are spectacular, particularly the NY emblem on Chase's left sleeve, and the fact that he wore his belt buckle on his hip, protecting his stomach in case of a head first slide, as was the practice of the day.
While the piece does have some staining on the back,
this image is still extremely presentable and would make for
an excellent display. An outstanding document, particularly
interesting to Yankees collectors.
