We have made the decision to break up an EXTRAORDINARY 1963 Topps set
- the #4 Master Set on the PSA Set Registry. The 1963 set is a
particularly difficult set to complete in high grade due to Topps' poor
quality control in the era which resulted in
considerable print defects. The large and colorful border at the bottom
simultaneously lends a distinctive design element and a condition
challenge, as they are extremely susceptible to
chipping and wear.
The example offered here is card #283, Roy Sievers, graded NM-MT 8. Though he played parts of 1964 and 1965, 1963 was the last full season in the 17-year career of the 5-time All Star who was the 1949 Rookie Of The Year. Centering is slightly east on the canvas, though the card has sharp corners and strong edges. Registration is really nice, but there is some snow in the red bottom border, and minor color loss in the two bottom corners of said border, a common occurrence in the 1963 set.
Only 10 examples graded by PSA have ever received a higher grade than the NM-MT 8 offered here.
