We have made the decision to break up an EXTRAORDINARY 1963 Topps set - the #4 Master Set on the PSA Set Registry. The 1963 set is a particularly difficult set to complete in high grade due to Topps' poor quality control in the era which resulted in considerable print defects. The large and colorful border at the bottom simultaneously lends a distinctive design element and a condition challenge, as they are extremely susceptible to chipping and wear.

The example offered here is card #210, Sandy Koufax, graded NM-MT 8. This stunning portrait of the Hall of Famer depicts the Dodgers pitcher at the peak of his powers. Koufax was already a star before 1963, but this was the first truly dominant season in his career, leading the Major Leagues in Wins (25), ERA (1.88), Strikeouts (306), and WHIP (0.875). He won the first of three career Cy Young Awards, but also took home the MVP Award. He led the Dodgers to a World Series sweep over the New York Yankees, winning World Series MVP, as well. 1963 was the season which turned Koufax from an All Star into a legend.

Arguably the most iconic Koufax card, and perhaps the most iconic card in the entire 1963 Topps set, this example features crisp borders and sharp corners. Centering is just slightly west on the canvas. Registration is often an issue with this set, but it is nearly perfect here, especially in the orange inset circle. Only some extremely minor color loss along the very bottom of the red bottom border and a centering imperfection on the card's back keep it from grading even higher than it already has. But this card has tremendous eye appeal and extreme significance.

Only 28 of the nearly 3,500 examples graded by PSA have ever received a higher grade than the NM-MT 8 offered here.
