We have made the decision to break up an EXTRAORDINARY 1963 Topps set
- the #4 Master Set on the PSA Set Registry. The 1963 set is a
particularly difficult set to complete in high grade due to Topps' poor
quality control in the era which resulted in
considerable print defects. The large and colorful border at the bottom
simultaneously lends a distinctive design element and a condition
challenge, as they are extremely susceptible to
chipping and wear.
The example offered here is card #360, Don Drysdale, graded NM-MT 8. Drysdale and Koufax were a menace to the league from 1961 to 1965. Fresh off his own Cy Young season which saw him finish 5th in MVP voting, Don's 1963 season ended with a World Series ring, the second of his three titles.
His 1963 Topps card has sharp corners and great edges. A slight registration issue with the red bottom border and the yellow circle inset is a common flaw for the set, but keeps the card from grading higher, nevertheless. Still tons of eye appeal on a card commemorating a significant year in the dominant right hander's Hall of Fame career.
