Cincinnati Reds official Crosley Field scorebook from 1954, chronicling an April 24 game with Chicago. Chicago won the game, 6-5, the contest neatly scored in black ink. The game happened to be the 7th of the season and just the 17th game of the young career of then-shortstop Ernie Banks, listed in the printed lineup as hitting just .158. Banks, who played ten games in 1953, got off to a slow start in 1954, but the Cubs were patient and Banks rewarded them not only with a .275 batting average (good for 2nd in the Rookie of the Year voting, behind Wally Moon), but with a 19 year Hall of Fame career, one of the best players of his era. A fantastic piece, appears in VG/EX condition with some light wrinkling, likely just a result of handling and use during the game.
