A true character, Paul "Dizzy" Trout probably had more wacky stories and sayings attributed to him by anyone this side of Yogi Berra but he was a pretty good pitcher for fourteen seasons (plus a brief coda in Baltimore after a half-decade away from the mound) and one of the two key starting pitchers for the 1945 World Champion Tigers. His signature on a PSA 3 1939 Play Ball is making our heads spin, with its massive swirls and loops, embellishments you might expect from such a player. The blue ink mesmerizes in its intricacies and PSA/DNA likes it too, with a grade of MINT 9 assigned. Trout died young, in 1972 and this is the only signed '39 Play Ball in the PSA/DNA database. The card originates from the Shibe Park collection of autographed cards, an original owner collection carefully collected by a teenage boy who, in 1939 and 1940, obtained many autographs from players arriving at the train station near Shibe Park, and continued for many years to obtain signatures in person and through the mail.
