A backup catcher with a light bat, Ray Berres played eleven seasons in the majors and finished with a lifetime average of just .216. His real claim to fame came as a pitching coach with the White Sox in the Fifties and Sixties, where he straightened out many a wayward pitcher. This is a fine looking PSA 4 1939 Play Ball of the future pitching guru, and he's signed in blue ink in a neat hand, with dark color with a PSA/DNA MINT 9 grade resulting.  The card originates from the Shibe Park collection of autographed cards, an original owner collection carefully collected by a teenage boy who, in 1939 and 1940, obtained many autographs from players arriving at the train station near Shibe Park, and continued for many years to obtain signatures in person and through the mail.
