There's no shortage of great photography in the 1939 Play Ball set as Del Young's pensive portrait shows. Young was a non-descript infielder with the Phillies over four seasons and played himself out of the league in early 1940, so he's not on many cards and this is the only graded, signed version of this particular combination.  Young died in 1979, missing the autograph show circuit that roared to life in the following decade and is a tough signature in general. Thankfully, he did a bang-up job here, with a nicely laid down blue ink signature, PSA/DNA Mint 9.  Some paper loss and paper remnants appear on the reverse, the product of long-ago scrapbook removal by the family of the original collector. The card originates from the Shibe Park collection of autographed cards, an original owner collection carefully collected by a teenage boy who, in 1939 and 1940, obtained many autographs from players arriving at the train station near Shibe Park, and continued for many years to obtain signatures in person and through the mail.
