Prodigious with the bat, Mel Ott was added to the Giants roster by John McGraw at the tender age of 17 in 1926. and would go on to hit 511 homers and earn a berth in Cooperstown. He perished in a New Orleans car accident in 1959 and as such his autograph is a hotly contested prize among collectors.  It's signed in blue ink atop what looks like an old bit of gum staining, with the signature moving from a lighter shade to a darker one as it progresses.  Ott-signed cards come up infrequently and this PSA/DNA Authentic Play Ball autograph from 1939 offers a chance to fill a tough slot in the Hall-of-Fame autograph registry.  Paper remnants are visible on the reverse, the product of long-ago scrapbook removal by the family of the original collector.  The card originates from the Shibe Park collection of autographed cards, an original owner collection carefully collected by a teenage boy who, in 1939 and 1940, obtained many autographs from players arriving at the train station near Shibe Park, and continued for many years to obtain signatures in person and through the mail.
