A backup catcher for four National League teams before and after four years of military service in World War 2, Don Padgett originally came up with the Cardinals as an outfielder but lost his starting job to Enos Slaughter.  Switched to first base, Stan Musial then came along and Padgett was being converted to catcher when he was traded to the Dodgers three days after the attack on Pearl Harbor. He had to wait four long years before donning the tools of ignorance for the Bums then got traded a month later!  He's signed a PSA Authentic 1939 Play Ball that has scrapbook residue, in a kind of swirly-looking blue, PSA/DNA MINT 9 in grade for his autograph, the only one of this combination in their database.  Padgett died in 1980, missing the autograph boom, and as a result his signature is quite scarce. The card originates from the Shibe Park collection of autographed cards, an original owner collection carefully collected by a teenage boy who, in 1939 and 1940, obtained many autographs from players arriving at the train station near Shibe Park, and continued for many years to obtain signatures in person and through the mail.
