Underrated Giants pitcher Hal Schumacher played for thirteen seasons and missed three more to military service. Breaking in young, Schumacher took just eight games of minor league ball before breaking in with the 1932 Giants, and kept his place in the starting rotation in 1933, when he would go 19-12 with a miniscule 2.16 ERA. Though he came back to the Giants after the war, he pitched infrequently, and retired at season's end. This 1940 Play Ball card grades VG-EX+ 4.5, the signature a perfect GEM MINT 10. The card originates from the Shibe Park collection of autographed cards, an original owner collection carefully collected by a teenage boy who, in 1939 and 1940, obtained many autographs from players arriving at the train station near Shibe Park, and continued for many years to obtain signatures in person and through the mail.
