In his rookie year of 1938, outfielder Johnny Rizzo set the Pittsburgh Pirates' single-season home run record with 23, a record that would hold until Ralph Kiner belted 51 in 1947.  He was hot and cold over his five year career, and was not able to break back into the majors after serving in the Navy during the war.  He passed away in 1977, so his signature is not easy to find on cardboard.  The card originates from the Shibe Park collection of autographed cards, an original owner collection carefully collected by a teenage boy who, in 1939 and 1940, obtained many autographs from players arriving at the train station near Shibe Park, and continued for many years to obtain signatures in person and through the mail.  In this case, some paper remnants are visible on the card back, the result of scrapbook removal.
