Often considered among the greatest American athletes of the 20th Century, Native American Jim Thorpe appeared for the Giants, Reds, and Braves over six seasons in the major leagues. Here, Thorpe is pictured in cold weather gear during spring training in 1914 while working out at the New York Giants facility in Marlin Springs, TX. The 3.5" x 4.25" photo has been cropped from a larger photograph, likely by the original publication to own this example, with editorial markings appearing in the form of black vertical and horizontal lines around Thorpe's pose. Evidence of editorial masking removed from the photo's surface is visible surrounding Thorpe's cap. A portion of Underwood credit stamping remains along the right edge of verso, with handwritten pencil notations throughout. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
