Back in 2019 as part of the NFL's 100th Anniversary celebration the NFL Network set out to compile the "100 Greatest Plays" of all-time. Fullback Alan Ameche's "sudden-death" overtime touchdown against the New York Giants in the 1958 NFL Championship Game landed at No. 19 on the distinguished list. A seminal moment in the sport's history, and the very first sudden death victory ever in the NFL, the contest was televised by NBC to 45 million people worldwide and subsequently dubbed "The Greatest Game Ever Played." Ameche, a college football star, won the Heisman trophy in 1954, was named NFL Rookie of the Year in 1955, and was a four-time Pro Bowler among other noteworthy amateur and professional accolades.

Easily one of the most recognizable and iconic images from the NFL's storied past, the moment was captured at Yankee Stadium as several photographers and cameramen gathered in anticipation of the play. Presented is an original 7" x 9" photograph of Ameche's touchdown, taken as the fullback received a handoff from Hall of Fame quarterback Johnny Unitas and crossed the goal line to secure a 24-17 Colts victory and the 1958 NFL Championship.

Photo presents beautifully with editorial notations in grease pencil towards the top edge. Verso exhibits mild smudging throughout with areas where tape has clearly been removed. Several handwritten notations appear on verso along with remnants of a paper tag that has fallen away. A remarkable photograph documenting one of the NFL's single most extraordinary moments. PSA/DNA.
