Starting second basemen Jack Barry of the Philadelphia Athletics and Bert Niehoff of the Philadelphia Phillies meet during the 1915 World Series in this 6.5" x 8.5" original Type 1 photo. A photographer from Paul Thompson's news photo service captured the moment shortly after prestigious sportswriter Hugh Fullerton's piece comparing the infielders appeared in newspapers the prior week. Niehoff is holding a uniquely striped bat as the men shake hands at the Baker Bowl in Philadelphia, conclusively dating this encounter to Game 1, 2, or 5 in the series. Aided by near-perfect lighting conditions the image is impressively detailed with beautiful tonal contrast throughout. A small pencil mark appears within the border above Niehoff's head and pencil notations that remain consistent with Paul Thompson originals from this era are also present on verso. Includes full LOA from PSA/DNA.
