Bronx native Billy Jurges had a lengthy career in baseball, as a player, manager, coach and scout. A three-time All-Star, Jurges was shot in July of 1932 by a showgirl with whom he was romantically linked. The young woman blamed Jurges' teammate Kiki Cutler for convincing Jurges to end the relationship. Bill Veeck later claimed that Jurges was not at all romantically linked with the woman, but was shot trying to defuse an argument between the woman and a married player for whom she had been the mistress. According to Veeck, Jurges covered for his teammate, making it seem as if he had been the target. Authenticated and encapsulated by PSA/DNA. The card originates from the Shibe Park collection of autographed cards, an original owner collection carefully collected by a teenage boy who, in 1939 and 1940, obtained many autographs from players arriving at the train station near Shibe Park, and continued for many years to obtain signatures in person and through the mail.
