Rare two-player N172 proof featuring Louis Bierbauer tagging Bob Gamble (identified as "Rust" in handwriting on the reverse), a pose catalogued as #28-5 in the N172 issue.  One of just 23 two-player cards in the N172 issue where both players are identified on the card, the Old Judge card itself is quite desirable.  Proofs of this nature are quite rare.  This is one of a number of Gilbert & Bacon proofs we have offered over the years, they are generally among the finest quality cabinet photos we have handled.  This example does exhibit some foxing and surface abrasions, along with some writing on the reverse.  Some mild surface abrasions and very faint paper loss are also apparent in the ornate Gilbert & Bacon ad on the reverse.  Though Louis Bierbauer had a lengthy and successful baseball career, Bob Gamble pitched just one major league game, giving up eight runs and losing.
