Handwritten three-page letter penned on November 5, 1954 by New York Yankees manager Casey Stengel. Stengel has addressed the letter to Mr. Bill Skiff and the Yankees skipper has signed in blue ballpoint with a "From Old Casey Stengel" salutation. Stengel's letter references his recent travels and mentions several former major leaguers including Dutch Ruether and Lefty O'Doul. Bill Skiff played briefly for both the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1921 and the New York Yankees in 1926, appearing in 22 games in the major leagues. Perhaps more interestingly Skiff played in parts of 19 seasons in the minor leagues for clubs located just about everywhere from New Jersey to Kansas City, Los Angeles, Toronto and elsewhere. Following his playing days Skiff managed in the minors for 14 seasons between 1933-51 before later becoming a scout for both the New York Yankees and Seattle Pilots. A small piece of clear tape joins both haves of the letter at their center. Full LOA from James Spence Authentication.
