Retirado cards from the three-in-one 1967 Topps-attributed Venezuelan set feature many Hall-of-Famers in a 50 subject subset. The cards feature an interesting design that offers stark contrast between the robin's egg blue backgrounds and prominent black-and-white player images. Take all that and then add in the scarcity level of these South-of-the-Border cards and you can see why these are hotly contested items.
The irrepressible Satchel Paige is the subject here, on an SGC Authentic card that has some obvious flaws, with dirt showing throughout the front and a corner that may have been nibbled by a mouse. The reverse has all the signs of a violent removal from an album. There are not many cards of Paige out there and this one was issued not long after his final appearance in a pro game, with the Reds Peninsula Grays farm team, of the old Carolina League, a mere year prior.
