An early star pitcher with the Boston Bloomer Girls starting around 1897, Miss Maud(e) Nelson (real name Clementina Brida), had joined the Chicago Stars by 1902 and became an owner and manager of the Western Bloomer Girls and some other teams as the years went on. She retired to the Wrigleyville neighborhood in Chicago in the 1930's. Captured here in a studio image, she looks poised and determined, her earliest known image. The mount and parts of the image have staining and paper loss evident, with the central image of Miss Nelson seeing some scuffing, although it's fairly innocuous. Some paper loss is seen on the mount's reverse.
