White Sox star center fielder, Oscar "Happy" Felsch poses for a photographer in this 4.25" x 8" original photo, likely during 1919. While most collectors and fans today associate Felsch with his role in the 1919 Black Sox Scandal, the addition of "Hap" and several other key figures to the Sox in 1915 ushered in a new era of successful campaigns for the club. Finishing 2nd only to the Red Sox by two games in 1916, the Sox bested the New York Giants in the 1917 World Series and secured the 1919 American League pennant before surrendering the World Series to the Cincinnati Reds over those eight famously controversial games. A striking look at the powerful Felsch, photo boasts nearly perfect tonal contrast with subtle details sharp and crisp. Verso displays handwritten notations in grease pencil identifying Felsch and dating the photo to 1919. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
