Wonderful pair of approx. 7" x 9" original news service photos featuring Braves future Hall of Famer, Eddie Mathews. Mathews, now a member of the 500 home run club, holds the distinction of being the only player in Braves history to play in all three cities the franchise called home (Boston, Milwaukee, and Atlanta). Interestingly, he also happens to be the player batting on the cover for the very first issue of Sports Illustrated, dated August 16, 1954. Pair includes: 1) Joe Adcock, a young Eddie Mathews, Sid Gordon, and Andy Pafko at Ebbets Field prior to a June, 1953 contest against the Dodgers. Some light creasing to the corners but central image remains superb. As eluded to by the full paper caption on reverse, Mathews finished the season with 47 home runs, leading the league. 2) 1953 photo of Sid Gordon, Joe Adcock, and Eddie Mathews flashing lumber at County Stadium. Conclusively dated to 1953 based upon the presence of Vern Bickford's nameplate in the Milwaukee locker room. Light creasing and gentle wear to the corners. Both photos are guaranteed Type 1.
