White Sox righthander, Joe Benz spent the entirety of his nine year career (1911-19) with the Chicago White Sox, posting an overall record of 77-75. Though he did not appear in the 1917 World Series, Benz and longstanding Giants manager, John McGraw are depicted entering the field of play at the Polo Grounds for Game 3, 4, or 6, all of which were hosted by New York. Special patriotic uniforms were worn by the White Sox during this series with red, white and blue Sox logos and American Flag patches on both sleeves, all of which are clearly visible in the attractive photograph.
