Intense head-and-shoulders original portrait photograph of Tigers Hall of Fame slugger, "Wahoo Sam" Crawford. Depicted in 1916 during the twilight of his major league career, the 36 year old Crawford would be released from his contract after the following season just 39 hits shy of 3000. A visible, heavy crease runs vertically across the surface of this 5" x 6.25" photo which also displays small areas of paper loss to the surface. Several handwritten notations appear on verso in pencil along with red stamping reading "State." Typed captioning from the American Press Association is present though partially obscured by an affixed newspaper clipping. Original photos of Crawford are scarce and this example remains a wonderful representation of the man despite any flaws to physical print. Guaranteed Type 1.
