Red Sox star Ted Williams was often referred to as “the greatest hitter who ever lived” and scored a few advertising hits off the field as well. His long-standing relationship with the Moxie Company of Boston provided the good-looking slugger ample opportunity to help ignite sales of its Moxie Root Beer product. Presented is a standing cardboard advertising display (15 1/2" wide by 27" tall) featuring Williams touting the Moxie soda. Wearing his Red Sox uniform and holding a bat, Williams is positioned on the front lower portion next to copy that reads “It's a HIT says Ted Williams.” More text appears at the top reading: “Ted Williams Says: Make Mine Moxie.” Still in strong condition, it shows only slight foxing on the sides that does little to detract from its appearance, with some age-related wear to the edges and folds of the piece. The yellow and red colors remain vibrant with little fading despite its 70 years in existence.
