In 1967, a Centennial Celebration was held in New Philadelphia, Ohio, to commemorate what would have been native son Cy Young’s 100th birthday. The Hall of Fame pitcher was born on March 29, 1867 in nearby Gilmore, Ohio. On hand for the local celebration was fellow Hall of Famer Lefty Grove, who was a spry 67 and served as Honorary Chairman of the Cy Young Centennial Celebration that day. This lot boasts Grove-signed newspaper clipping that includes a photo from that day showing Grove standing next to Thomas Eakin, chairman of the event, and Desmond Cooper, Young’s biographer. Grove signed the newspaper cutout in black marker. The cut signature has been authenticated by PSA.
