Handsome felt banner, measuring 17" x 23", celebrating the American League Champion Yankees. White paint on a red background with a white felt reinforcement at the top edge, the printing includes an illustration of an infield, with the Yankee infielders (Berra, Collins, Martin, Rizzuto, and McDougald, with Whitey Ford on the mound), along with first and third base coaches Bill Dickey and Frank Crosetti printed in the appropriate positions on the field. The bottom left and right edge includes the names of the remainder of the roster, including Hall of Famers Casey Stengel, Johnny Mize, and of course Mickey Mantle. The Yankees' name and "American League Champions 1953" are emblazoned at the top of the banner.
In FAIR condition, the piece exhibits considerable wear at the top and bottom edges, with some fabric fraying at the bottom edge. The white reinforced top edge appears to have faded considerably, and there is cracking to the paint in many areas, a common occurrence with this type of banner. A relatively scarce document of the 1953 Yankees and their many superstars, one of just a few we have encountered.
