Gorgeous lithographic scorecard for "The Great Mets," the New York Metropolitans, playing the Brooklyn Grays at the St. George Play Grounds on Staten Island.  Meticulously scored in pencil, the game date of August 19, 1886 is written on the inside pages.  As corroborated by newspaper accounts, the hometown Metropolitans won the game, 5-1 behind the pitching of Jack Lynch. Metropolitans outfielder Stephen Brady is depicted on the colorful cover, which features beautiful four-color lithography. The Brooklyn team featured several names familiar to even casual 19th Century card collectors, Hardy Henderson, George Pinkney, and Germany Smith.  The 5 3/4" x 7 3/4" scorecard is very delicate, the center fold beginning to separate after more than a century.  Additional wear is evident at the corners and edges.  A very desirable, rare 19th Century scorecard.
