Yankees first baseman Lou Gehrig slides safely into third after tagging on a fly to center in this enormous 11" x 14" Type 1 photograph. Based upon the lengthy inscription on verso, Billy Sullivan is the 3rd baseman receiving the throw and applying the tag. We can conclusively date this image to 1931 as Sullivan starred for the White Sox from 1931-33, with '31 remaining the only season in which Chicago wore the dark away uniforms during Sullivan's tenure. Image has clearly been tightly cropped from a much wider shot and image quality has been impacted as a result. A small piece of the lower-right corner has chipped away and chipping is present along the bottom edge. Typical light creasing is present in the upper-right corner along with a small 1/2" tear on the right edge. Authenticated as a Type 1 photo by PSA/DNA.
