On October 1, 1949 "The Yankee Clipper," Joe DiMaggio was honored at Yankee Stadium on Joe DiMaggio Day before a crowd just shy of 70,000 spectators. Graciously, he exclaimed "I'd like to thank the good lord for making me a Yankee," while the visiting Red Sox looked on and fans showered DiMaggio with an abundance gifts. This noteworthy pair of news service photos depict DiMaggio on that very day along with Yankees broadcaster and master of ceremonies, Mel Allen in the first photo, and DiMaggio with his younger brother Dom in the second photo (at the time, Dom DiMaggio was an All-Star calibre outfielder for the Sox). Both photo surfaces exhibit some degree of visible scattered wear and smudging, with several corners chipped away. Verso of photos both include AZ Photo Service stamping and display moderate to heavy toning around the edges. Authenticated as Type 1 photos by PSA/DNA.
