Outstanding ticket stub from a Yankee Stadium wartime benefit game for the Army and Navy Relief Funds. The event took place before a crowd of nearly 70 000 fans who collectively raised $80,000 for the Fund. A doubleheader between the Yankees and Senators was split but the real highlight was an exhibition between Hall of Famers Babe Ruth and Walter Johnson that resulted in the 54-year-old hurler throwing 17 pitches to the 47-year-old Babe who slammed the final pitch over the right field fence (just foul) circled the bases anyway and left the field to a rousing ovation. An excellent stub from an important part of baseball history when teams pitched in to aid in the American war effort.
