Fascinating mounted studio photograph of "The Georgia Peach," Tyrus Raymond Cobb in the uniform style worn by the 1908-11 Detroit Tigers. While explicit details related to the issuance of this photo remain elusive, the image is identical to one from a series of four large-format photographs reportedly originating from Cobb himself and gifted to a friend who held them for over 100 years before their sale within the hobby in 2020. That friend was Leonard A. Young, owner of the Detroit Polo Club and member of the Detroit Athletic Club along with Cobb. As these pieces and the images associated with them have not surfaced elsewhere it's highly likely they were reserved as gifts for close acquaintances and/or personal friends of Mr. Cobb.

Areas of soiling, light surface abrasions, and chipping are present to the off-white border of this photograph while light surface abrasions are evident across the central image of Cobb. Photo has been affixed to a bright-white mount that peeks through the chipped areas along the edges. Union Photo Co. credit stamping appears on verso of mount towards the bottom and all four corners appear rounded to some degree. Measures 8" x 5" overall with the central image of Cobb measuring approx. 4.5" x 6.5. Authenticated and encapsulated as a c.1910's Type 3 photo by PSA/DNA.
