Toothpick Sam Jones started out in the Negro American League in 1947 and ended up in the Indians system in 1950 and brought up to Cleveland at the tail end of 1951. A big righty with a sweeping curveball and control issues, he was sent down in the early part of the 1952 season and spent all of 1953 and 1954 with AAA Indianapolis. He would re-establish himself with the Cubs in 1955 and became the first African-American to pitch a no hitter in the major leagues that year. Three times he pulled off the difficult task of leading the National League in walks and strikeouts. He played through 1967, in the majors and minors and battled cancer for the last decade of his life, succumbing in 1971.

Jones is a tough signature and this is a rare chance to pick up a truly difficult prize. The card has seen some tape removal and shows some handling.  The James Spence Authentication for SGC has deemed the signature as Authentic and it's in blue ballpoint running up the left side of the card.
