His nickname was Cuddles and he last pitched in the major leagues in 1950, joining Uncle Sam for two years until retiring with a lifetime ERA of 5.98 after a 1953 comeback attempt in the minors ended with a broken leg. His best season was spent with the Yankees in 1949 where he earned a ring as a member of the Bombers; Marshall also started the first night game ever held at Yankee Stadium. His stint in the military is why Topps was able use him as a subject in 1952. The card has been handled a bit, with rounded corners with some creasing seen. It's inscribed "To Jessie III With best wishes" by Marshall in blue ballpoint, with his autograph clear and strong and deemed AUTHENTIC by PSA/DNA.
