He was nicknamed "Jet" for an obvious reason but it was also descriptive-Sam Jethroe could fly! He first played professionally with the Indianapolis Clowns in 1938 while still in high school and was a Negro American League star for most of the 1940's until the Brooklyn Dodgers came calling in 1949. He played a year for their top farm team in Montreal, then had his contract sold to the Boston Braves and all he did was win the AL Rookie of Year Award in 1950. He played his last full season in 1952 and Topps made up a very colorful card for him that year.
The card has some small condition issues, with a small crease running in from the left border, a minor stain along the bottom left and the centering of pointed lower right. A compelling image remains though and it's sweetened by a beautiful signature in black, graded MINT 9 by PSA/DNA.
