Topps didn't issue too many horizontal cards in 1952 but when they did they usually did so in dramatic, if sometimes headscratching fashion.  Lepcio's airbrushed cap was a matter of necessity.  New Bosox manager Lou Boudreau initiated a bit of a youth movement and Ted Lepcio was one of several players brought up with very little experience in the minors and therefore was a prime candidate for the 1952 high numbers.
