The 200 black-and-white images appearing in the H801-8 set are also found in three other sets from 1917, each with bespoke advertising. The cards were intended for this purpose and printed "on spec", with the Boston Store, a prominent Chicago concern, availed themselves accordingly. The six cards seen here are all trimmed and cut down, yet the cards are quite scarce.
Included in this lot of a half-dozen National League players are Hall-of-Famer Max Carey, Sherwood Magee, Clarence Mitchell, Bill Fischer, M.A. Gonzales and Tom Griffith. Gonzales is actually Miguel "Mike" Gonzalez, an early Cuban player who played 17 big league seasons, all in the National League and coined the phrase "good field-no hit", very possible an early self-own as well. A couple have creases and most show some light foxing. Six cards total.
