Shot on Opening Day, 1929, George Herman Ruth twists himself into the ground in this 6.5" x 8.5" news service photo from International. Despite appearing terribly off-balance in this image Ruth would finish his day with two walks, a solo home run down the left field line, and two runs scored. Lou Gehrig also launched a home run in this game, leading to a 7-3 Yankees victory over the Red Sox. Photo surface remains smooth with only very light corner wear and a hint of wrinkling within the right border. "Babe Ruth swinging at ball in Yankees-Red Sox Game" appears handwritten in ballpoint within bottom border and paper remnants remain affixed to all four corners of verso but are largely unobtrusive. Verso also displays large, bold International stamping along with handwritten notations above. Authenticated and encapsulated as a Type 2 photo, developed sometime in the 1930's, by PSA/DNA.
