Hall-of-Famer Johnny Evers appeared in an impressive number of sets during his long career but his appearance in the V100 Willard's Chocolate set, issued in Canada circa 1923, took a bit of serendipity. Evers had retired in 1917 but began managing the Cubs (again) in 1921 and we see him here in that role, although he was no longer skippering by 1922! The V100 set shares its 180 subject checklist with the E123 Curtis-Ireland Candy set, which was issued in the U.S.
V100's are blank backed and this SGC 3 example portrays an already-grizzled Evers at all of 40 years old in a well-reproduced image. The corners are rounded, although evenly so, with a couple of additional minor flaws present. The overall look is quite appealing. SGC has graded 7 overall, with two higher (a 4 and a 5) while PSA has graded a lone 4 and no others. Tough card!
