Topps created many bespoke sets over the years for various events hosted by major or minor league baseball leagues and teams but the Bowie Kuhn card shown here was made for a New Jersey charity event called "Saints & Sinners" that lauded the Commissioner of Baseball via the time honored practice of "roasting" the honoree. The Kuhn is legendary card among collectors of the harder Topps "test" and limited issues and in demand among Hall-of-Fame collectors as well. Estimates of overall production vary but seem safely in the low hundreds. PSA has graded 28 overall, with only 9 examples higher, two of which are qualified. The SGC pop report shows 9 graded, with none higher than 7.5.
The holder has a crack easily seen in front scan but the card is unaffected. The black borders show very little wear and the back is clean, with just a touch of the toning usually seen with this card. Rarely offered, this is a key oddball Topps item from over a half-century ago.
