Spectacular, colorful advertising poster for Gold Coin chewing tobacco, advertising a "Gold Coin tobacco present" upon redemption of 150 labels.  The Buchner Gold Coin brand is best-known in the hobby as the producer of the N284 Gold Coin tobacco cards of 1887, but also produced a number of other handsome redemption prizes and advertising posters which serve as outstanding companion pieces.  The "present" referred to on the poster likely refers to the beautiful "Offenders & Defenders" book, a beautiful hardcover book with full-color illustrations of ten police chiefs ("Defenders") and 200 criminals ("Offenders"). Printed by Donaldson Brothers of New York's Five Points district, the chromolithograph poster has been handsomely matted and framed to a finished size of 19" x 36". The poster presents amazingly well, clean and sharp, with elaborate imagery picturing a woman holding a container of Gold Coin tobacco (while walking her dog), being greeted by a horseback-riding gentleman.  The poster appears EX but upon close examination does exhibit a few repairs of various creases and tears, including some careful inpainting near the hem of the woman's dress.  Some very light creases are visible elsewhere upon close inspection; the matte and frame prevent us from examining the edges and reverse of the poster.  Though the various redemption prizes produced by Buchner & co. remain highly collectible today, advertising posters are quite rare and difficult to find in any condition.  A tremendous piece, extremely colorful and presentable.
