Missing just the difficult #66 card of Ted Williams for completion, an attractive near-complete set of 1954 Bowman baseball cards. A strong, midgrade set, a condition breakdown is approximately 6% EX/MT, 23% EX, 37% VG/EX, 25% VG, 9% GOOD with a few lesser. Key cards break down as follows: #1 Rizzuto (VG/EX), #6 Fox (VG), #15 Ashburn (VG/EX), #38 Minoso (VG), #45 Kiner (VG), #50 Kell (EX/MT), #57 Wilhelm (G), #58 Reese (EX), #62 Slaughter (VG/EX), #64 Mathews (VG), #65 Mantle (PSA GOOD+ 2.5), #84 Doby (VG/EX), #89 Mays (SGC EX 5), #90 Campanella (SGC EX/MT 6), 95 Roberts (VG/EX), #132 Feller (G), #148 Hodges (VG), #161 Berra (SGC VG/EX 4), #164 Wynn (EX), #170 Snider (VG/EX), #177 Ford (VG/EX), and #196 Lemon (EX).
Of the more important variations, the cards included in the set are as follows: #33 Raschi (no traded line), #38 Minoso (.963/.963 FA), #67 Scheib (two lines under bio), #81 Coleman (1.000/.975 FA), #138 Hodges (.993/.991 FA), #145 Martin (.985/.983 FA), #163 Philley (152 games, no traded line), #218 Roe (no black loop).
The set is attractive and clean, the majority of the condition flaws relating to centering or light corner wear, much of which is likely simply the result of the cards sliding out of the 8-pocket pages in which they were stored, thus sustaining a bit of edge and corner wear. Still, a very strong group of cards from an underrated but beautiful set. 224 cards total.
