Roger Bresnahan can be thanked for debuting and popularizing catcher's shin guards but the first time he wore them in a major league game, it led to a snowball fight and forfeit! Thankfully, they caught on, although another innovation of his, the batting helmet, took a few more decades to come into vogue. Neither piece of kit is evident here though, as he contemplates the sunset at Robison Field in St. Louis, with a smokestack belching away in the distance. The color on this SGC 3.5 is bright, with a scattering of dirt to the upper right and some paper loss along the left border visible. The Piedmont 350/Factory 25 Reverse has held up quite well and this baseball innovator would look great in any pre-war or HOF collection!
