1955 marked the last year of Bowman's cards as Topps bought them out in early 1956. As far as swan songs go, they went with a unique look that acknowledged how big of a cultural shift was taking place with televisions replacing radios in homes across the country. Color TV was introduced on a consistent basis in late 1953 but was out of the household budget for most people, so Bowman knew what they were doing with their design here, a classic study in faux-FOMO. This PSA 5 of Willie Mays perfectly showcases the design of these cards and the image here is quite well focused and bright. A couple of corner touches are apparent, the dark wood-grain background being unforgiving, but overall the card looks solid, with fantastic centering front and back.
