Future Hall of Famer Frank "Home Run" Baker earned his nickname with two home runs in the 1911 World Series, batting .375 in the six-game Athletics victory against the New York Giants. Baker's heroics were so legendary among Philadelphia fans that he was the subject of a beautiful celluloid pocket mirror, picturing a portrait photo of Baker, the words "Philadelphia Athletics" and "Hero 1911 Worlds Series" typeset on either side of the image, Baker's name printed along the top. Manufactured by the Keystone Badge Company of Reading, PA, this is one of the more popular baseball pocket mirrors, due to its beauty and the high profile subject. This example measures 2 1/4" in diameter and presents reasonably well, significant foxing and oxidation on the front restricted to the edges. The reverse exhibits significant oxidation and wear, the majority of the mirror unusable. Regardless, an important turn of the century memorabilia item.
