One of the four or five greatest centerfielders in Tigers history, McCosky's World War 2 service took three years of his prime, then a debilitating injury after he returned in 1946 derailed his career as he lost the entire 1949 season after blowing out his back in Spring Training. Prior to that he had been on a potential Cooperstown trajectory.  A favorite son of Detroit, he was so popular there an instructional baseball league was named after him. The PSA/DNA Authenticated signature here presents strongly on his semi-high 1952 Topps card, issued near the end of his career where he remade himself as a pinch hitter with the Reds.
