Initially intended to be comic strip characters conceived by writer/artist Rose O'Neill the "Kewpie" figures (intended to be baby cupid characters) began to attract popularity as paper and bisque dolls continuing their popularity as plastic dolls well into the mid 20th Century. This collection of tobacco felts bear the name of creator Rose O'Neill each example depicting Kewpie figures engaging in a variety of activities. The best of our research indicates that this is a complete set of felts and while they do exhibit the type of fraying and wrinkling consistent with century-old tobacco felts they remain in remarkable condition their pastel coloring clean and bright. While assigning technical grades to pieces like this are difficult since there are size variations the aforementioned fraying and changes to shape that occur with stretching and folding. On average their apparent condition is VG/EX though there are several that exhibit significant staining and wear and would grade considerably lesser. Still a wonderful piece of turn of the century pop culture.
