By the time his career had ended Mickey Mantle was one of the most beloved Yankees in history a hero to a generation of New York-area kids. Though he was rewarded with a "Mickey Mantle Day" in 1965 when team ownership felt he was nearing the end of his career on June 8 1969 Mantle had a second such day - this time to retire his uniform number 7. In his speech to the packed house Mantle said "I'll tell you one thing baseball was real good to me and playing 18 years in Yankee Stadium is the best thing that could ever happen to a ballplayer." Presented are three ticket stubs from that memorable day. Two of the ticket stubs are lower box seat stubs which have remained together since that day in 1965. The fronts of both tickets are in apparent EX-MT condition with sharp corners and no wear or wrinkles. Closer inspection reveals a very slight pinhole on each stub perhaps even from a staple. The reverse contains the ticket owner's handwritten notes commemorating the game and final score. The third stub is a ticket coupon from the mezzanine level box seats likely torn from a ticket book. It remains in VG condition the flimsy paper subject to some mild wrinkling. All three stubs have been authenticated and encapsulated by SGC. Also included are a handout and commemorative record from the event. The handout is in magnificent condition with very little apparent wear and a beautiful full color photo of Mantle inside. The record also presents very well the full-color sleeve intact though the record itself does appear to be scratched on one side. Click here for a 2-minute special on Mickey Mantle Day. This is a fabulous collection of memorabilia commemorating Mickey Mantle's "day " the day he was rewarded by the team and his fans for a lengthy career of highlights and memories.
