Interesting collection of correspondence and stationery pieces from the Harlem liquor store owned by Dodgers Hall of Famer Roy Campanella. It was from this liquor store that the great backstop was driving on that fateful winter night in early 1958 when he was involved in the car accident that paralyzed him from the shoulders down ending his baseball career and leaving him in a wheelchair for the rest of his life. This collection includes letterhead and stationery from the store as well as a small group of correspondence with the New York Yankees from early 1969. Included in the collection are the following: 1) White and yellow carbonless invoice forms from Roy Campanella Inc. Wines and Liquors on West 134th Street in New York both in EX condition with a slight wrinkle at the upper-right corner. 2) Blank Roy Campanella Inc. letterhead in VG condition with some wrinkles and visible toning along the left edge. 3) Carbon copy of a letter of early invitation from the New York Yankees dated January 15 1969 inviting Campanella to participate in the Yankees' 1969 Old Timer's Day. On Yankees stationery from the office of GM and Hall of Famer Lee MacPhail. VG condition with minor edge wear. 4) Handwritten letter to Lee MacPhail on Campanella's small letterhead dated July 17 1969 advising that he will be in attendance. Clearly handwritten by and signed by a secretary or associate. 5) Carbon Copy of a response letter from MacPhail dated July 22 expressing appreciation that Campanella will be participating. VG condition with staple removal holes at the upper left some folding and the number "22" written in ink at the top right corner. 6) Carbon Copy of a letter to Campanella from the Yankees with details on the Old Timers' Day and associated post game dinners. VG condition with staple removal holes at the upper left corner and some marks from folding. 7) Copy of letter from Yankees PR vice president Robert FIshel congratulating Campanella on his Hall of Fame induction dated February 12 1969. Roy Campanella is one of the most beloved figures in all of Dodgers history. Memorabilia and mementos relating to Campanella remain highly desirable among collectors. This is an interesting collection of material related to Campanella's life as a former player as well as of his infamous Harlem liquor store.
