Exceptional World Series press pass to Briggs Stadium in Detroit as issued to legendary broadcaster Mel Allen for the 1940 World Series. The 1940 season was Allen's first as play-by-play man in New York where he announced home games for both the Yankees and the Giants until entering the US Army in 1943. The great announcer had already begun to carve his niche by that time however serving as color commentator for the 1938 World Series. As an employee of Mutual Broadcasting Allen was awarded a front row Press seat to Briggs Stadium where the Tigers took two of three from the Cincinnati Reds between October 4 and 6. The Tigers ultimately lost in 7. The pass itself has been hole-punched three times (ostensibly once for each of the team's three home games) the largest of the three hole punches breaking through to the edge of the pass at the bottom left. Visible creasing most pronounced at the top does not interfere with the pass's attractive presentation. Original string is still affixed to the top of the pass which once hung from the lapel of one of the game's most famous voices during the most important games of the 1940 season.
